Three kinds of country, three kinds of tree job
The city and the older suburbs. Cairns City, Manunda, Edge Hill and Whitfield have many of the region's oldest gardens. Mature mangoes, figs, raintrees and poincianas planted decades ago now tower over timber houses, often on small blocks with narrow side access. Hillside lots at the foot of Mount Whitfield add steep driveways and steps. Jobs here are usually climbing work, lowered by rope over roofs and fences.
The western valley and the southern corridor. Redlynch sits in a valley against the range, with newer estates beside acreage and rainforest edges. Edmonton and Gordonvale to the south mix suburban streets with cane land and larger blocks. Ground on the flats can stay wet for weeks after big rain, so access and timing matter, and acreage may raise vegetation-clearing questions.
The northern beaches. Smithfield, Trinity Beach and Palm Cove bring sandy soils, salt-laden wind and a lot of palms. Coconut de-nutting, frond cleans and palm removals are common, alongside native trees in newer estates and body-corporate grounds.
